What makes a good friend?

As part of Year 5`s exploration of Healthy and Happy friendships in #PSHE, the class were asked to look at some Good Friend Cards, and arrange them in order of what is important to them in a friend. The activity enabled the girls to reflect on the qualities of a good friend and to recognise that real friends wouldn`t put pressure on them to do things they felt uncomfortable with, referring back to their previous lesson about peer pressure.

As the class shared their thoughts and opinions, feeding back after the activity, it was very apparent that loyalty, honesty and kindness were widely considered the most important qualities. Whilst the order might have slightly differed for some, the shared core values of our girls and the ability to articulate them, never ceases to make us proud. 🥰

We were thrilled to welcome journalist
@DEbaltaji from Bloomberg in for a career`s talk with our Year 6 girls this morning. An insight into breaking news, running a team of financial journalists and the skills that have helped her to succeed in a male-dominated workplace.

For the girls to hear Dana talk with so much passion - "I have this fire in me, I just needed some way in." - was an inspiration for the girls, whilst also providing food for thought as she posed the following reflection: "You need to consider, do I want to be right, or do I want to be effective? Relationships are everything."

Dana demonstrated ‘knowledge is power’ - especially when that knowledge is financial. From global news events to personal finance, she explained why maths matters & the independence it brings.

Perhaps one of the most special aspects of journalism that we took away from this morning, and certainly aspirational, was her insight that "when covering news that divides people, that`s when you need to look for a way to bring sides together."
