Music

Music is very important to the life of the school, and we have an extremely talented music teacher who both inspires and works with the girls to compose pieces unique to the school, which are sung and played in school performances.

Music brings together intellect and feeling and enables the girls to use personal expression. Pupils are encouraged to explore through listening, singing and playing a wide range of musical genres. In lessons, girls acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to make music and have the opportunity to perform and compose using a wide range of musical instruments. Everyone learns to play ukulele in Year 3.

The girls also have access to instrumental tuition with 77% taking the opportunity to learn at least one instrument through peripatetic classes within school. These pupils are encouraged to perform in Friday assemblies throughout the year and take part in a summer concert to showcase their achievements to friends and family. We have two enthusiastic choirs who have been invited to sing at different events and locations around London.

One of the annual highlights is Grandparents’ Day when each class performs a song and a dance for their families, with afternoon tea and cakes. The Christmas Carol Concert is also a highlight, particularly as there are opportunities for soloists to really shine in front of the whole school community.

“One of the things I love about Village Prep is that the girls develop confidence and a solid sense of self that comes across to the entire community.

The girls are kind and sweet to one another, they model positive behaviour not only by being academically driven but by being community-minded. I see that there is a strong love of learning that is nourished among the students.

As a parent, I feel that Village School is a safe space for young women to flourish and be the best versions of themselves.”
