Music

Music is very important to the life of the school. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables the girls to use personal expression. Pupils are encouraged to explore through listening, singing and playing a wide range of musical genres. In lessons, girls acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to make music and have the opportunity to perform and compose using a wide range of musical instruments. Everyone learns to play recorder in Year 3.

The girls also have access to instrumental tuition with 77% taking the opportunity to learn at least one instrument through peripatetic classes within school. These pupils are encouraged to perform, for example, in assemblies, whatever their standard. We have two enthusiastic choirs who have been invited to sing at different events and locations around London.

One of the annual highlights is Grandparents’ Day when each class performs a song and a dance for their families, with afternoon tea and cakes. The Christmas Carol service is also a highlight, particularly as there are opportunities for soloists to really shine in front of the whole school community.
